The new Scania P-, G- and R-series was recently launched into the Malaysian market at a ceremony at the Sepang F1 circuit in Sepang, about 50 km south of the capital city Kuala Lumpur.

Held inside a massive outdoor marquee, the launch was witnessed by some 400 guests; including customers, suppliers and members of the transportation fraternity.  Mr Per Holmström, Director of Factory & Franchise Sales, Scania CV AB was on hand to launch the trucks into the Malaysian market.

“The new Scania truck range further reaffirms Scania’s commitment to our Malaysian customers in offering the most up-to-date product range and latest technologies Scania has to offer,” said Mr Peter Sjöblom, CEO for Scania in South East Asia at the launch.

“With today’s launch of the new Scania P-, G- and R-series truck range in Malaysia, Scania is entering a new era of progress.  These are our best trucks yet, and we are proud to introduce these vehicles to our Malaysian customers,” he added.

The new trucks – a P 420 and P 380 tractor units in the striking “Mandarin Red” colour – were then unveiled to the crowd.  After the launching ceremony, guests were treated to a sumptuous 6-course lunch and were entertained by Malaysia’s top stand-up comedian Harith Iskander; as well as a live band made up of Scania mechanics and technicians.

Scania also took the opportunity to display the “B-double” trailer concept, coupled to the new top-of-the-line R 500 V8.  Although not yet approved for use on Malaysian roads, the B-double concept is expected to be well received by operators looking at reducing costs per tonne per mile.

“The B-double configuration concept allows higher payload per trip, which in turn gives better productivity and efficiency,” said Mr Sjöblom.  “These trucks are actually quite easy to maneuver, and contribute to better road safety and less emission levels because there is less number of vehicles on the road needed for the same amount of payload.”

The unveiling of the trucks was followed by a truly unique opportunity – to test drive the new range of Scania trucks on the famed Formula 1 circuit.   Guests were allowed to drive the trucks out onto the track – albeit at speeds much slower than what Kimi Raikkonnen is used to.

“We want customers to experience the power, comfort and ease of driving of the new trucks.  These new trucks represent the best of Scania, and the opportunity to drive these trucks on the Sepang F1 circuit is definitely something very special indeed,” said Mr Chan Kong Art, Truck Sales Manager for Scania (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
