Scania Malaysia wins Rapid KL tender for 150 city buses
Scania ( Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has secured the tender to supply 150 low-entry city buses to Syarikat Prasarana Sdn Bhd (Prasarana), to be used by Rapid KL.
The buses – all Scania K 270 UB 4x2 – feature a full low-entry body for fast and easy entry and disembarkation for passengers, including wheelchair passengers. The body is made of aluminum to reduce weight and fuel consumption, as well as minimize rust.
“Scania is pleased to again partner Prasarana in modernizing the city bus infrastructure in Malaysia,” says En. Idros Puteh, General Manager of Scania (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
The Rapid KL buses – all 12.0m long – are equipped with a ramp for full wheelchair access; and two docking slot with seatbelts in the bus for safe wheelchair anchorage. When not in use, they provide additional room for standing passengers.
“The new Rapid KL Scania city buses also additionally feature a kneeling suspension function, which lowers the step height significantly making entry and disembarkation for able-body passengers as well as those on wheelchairs much easier and safer,” adds Idros.
Full delivery of all 150 units Scania city buses to Rapid KL is expected to be completed by end May 2011.
